CLIMECO training
09.01.2008

Application submission deadline: 15 January 2008

Dates: 21-24 April

Place: Brest, France

A multidisciplinary approach is needed to formulate responses to questions related to variations of physical climate system on ocean biogeochemistry and ecosystems. This exploratory training workshop intends to increase the interactions between physical climate science and marine biogeochemistry and ecosystems communities with focus on impacts of climate variability on the marine environment. The training workshop is aimed at young marine scientists to increase their knowledge on the existing climate data, to evaluate their relevance for biogeochemical and ecosystem studies and to judge of their quality (uncertainties).

GLOMAR - Bremen International Graduate School for Marine Sciences
16.12.2007
The Graduate School offers partial financial support (up to € 500 per month) for PhD students from other research institutions planning to stay for a couple of months or longer at one of the Bremen / Bremerhaven marine science institutions. The GLOMAR offers also courses (introductory and experts courses), which are open for all interested PhD students.

All PhD students working on a topic related to “Global Change in the Marine Realm” (Ocean and Climate, Coastal Zone Processes, Marine Ecology and Biogeochemistry, Challange to Society) and having established contact to Bremen/Bremerhaven scientist willing to host them can apply for such financial support. The list of the necessary documents for an application can be found here:

4th Earth Observation summer school
12.12.2007

The European Space Agency (ESA) organizes a series of summer schools on Monitoring and Modelling of the Earth System to promote the exploitation of Earth Observation (EO) data across disciplines, with a specific focus on their assimilation into Earth System models.
The school is open to young researchers (i.e. Ph.D. students, young post- doctoral scientists) who are specialised in a variety of Earth Science disciplines and wish to expand and improve their knowledge and skills. Participation is limited to a maximum of 60 students and is highly competitive. There is no fee for the school but students are expected to cover their own travel and accommodation cost (unfortunately, financial support is not available). All students will be hosted at the Villa Tuscolana at special ESA rate.
Dead line - 15 February, 2008
